PURUS PLASTICS: Solutions for the sponge city of tomorrow

Climate change is increasingly bringing with it heavy rainfall events, which pose major challenges for our cities. Conventional sewage systems often reach their limits, which can lead to flooding and damage.

This is where the concept of the “sponge city” comes into play. The sponge city is an innovative approach to rainwater management that is based on nature. Instead of draining rainwater as quickly as possible, it is retained on site, infiltrated and made available for use. This is achieved through a combination of different measures, such as green roofs, infiltration areas, rainwater retention basins and permeable surfaces.

Green roofs play a key role in this. They act as natural sponges that absorb and store rainwater, help to relieve the burden on the sewage system and improve the urban climate at the same time. ECOgreen green roofs from PURUS PLASTICS are an important building block in the implementation of the sponge city concept. Our systems offer effective rainwater retention, promote biodiversity and contribute to sustainable urban development.

Together, we can make cities more resilient to the consequences of climate change and create an environment worth living in for future generations.

The pre-greened solution from PURUS: green roofs for a better future

At a time when sustainability and environmental protection are becoming increasingly important, modern green roofs offer an innovative and effective solution for making our cities more liveable and buildings more efficient to operate. Far more than just an aesthetic enhancement, green roofs are an integral part of sustainable construction and offer an impressive range of benefits that impact both the environment and the economy.

  • A decisive factor is the optimized water retention and water storage. Green roofs significantly reduce the load on the drainage system by absorbing a large proportion of rainwater and slowly releasing it again. This not only contributes to rainwater management, but also relieves the burden on the sewage system and minimizes the risk of flooding.
  • Green roofs also make an important contribution to improving air quality in our cities. More green spaces mean less particulate matter and a reduction in CO2 emissions, which has a positive effect on the health of the population.
  • Another often underestimated benefit is the extension of the roof’s service life. The plants provide natural UV protection, which protects the roofing material from harmful sun rays and thus significantly extends its service life.
  • Green roofs also score highly in terms of comfort and energy efficiency. They provide excellent sound and heat insulation, which leads to a more pleasant indoor climate and reduced heating costs. In addition, lower precipitation charges can reduce operating costs.
  • Last but not least, green roofs help to improve the microclimate by regulating the ambient temperature and creating a habitat for insects and birds. And finally, there are often state subsidies and crediting options that make the implementation of such a project economically more attractive.
