ECORASTER as a separating layer for a lunging circle – Durable ground stabilization with optimal integration of riding sand

For this project, a lunging circle with an area of approximately 240 m² was professionally renovated and fitted with the ECORASTER grid flooring system—a solution specifically designed to meet the demands of equestrian sports. The starting point was an existing sand surface that was neither sufficiently compacted nor evenly graded. Regular lunging caused deep hoof marks and hardening, resulting in an uneven and non-ergonomic surface.

In the first step, the old surface was completely removed and the area leveled. The ECORASTER TE30 system was then installed on the prepared subgrade—a permeable plastic grid whose open structure supports the future riding arena surface and provides lasting stability. After the grid elements were locked into place, the surface was finally covered with non-slip, shear-resistant riding sand and leveled.

Why use ECORASTER in the lunging ring?

The use of ECORASTER ground grids in equestrian areas offers several advantages: The open grid structure stabilizes the subsoil and distributes pressure loads evenly. This not only ensures that the riding sand remains functional over the long term, but also prevents the formation of deep hoof marks and uneven soil compaction that would otherwise occur. At the same time, the surface remains water-permeable and easy to maintain—a major advantage for outdoor riding areas.

The “Lunging Ring” project demonstrates how the targeted use of ECORASTER can create a high-quality, durable, and functional equestrian surface. The combination of professional subgrade preparation, modular grid installation, and final sand leveling results in a surface that offers outstanding properties from both a sporting and maintenance perspective—ideal for training and daily use in equestrian sports.
