Project description
Access roads for a bus company in Marktredwitz – durable, permeable pavement using ECORASTER
In 2013, a large area on the grounds of a bus company in Marktredwitz—including access roads, parking spaces, and turning circles—was paved using the ECORASTER E50 ground reinforcement system. The goal was to create a durable, mud- and puddle-free driveway that could permanently withstand high traffic volumes from heavy vehicles without requiring conventional sealants such as asphalt or concrete.
The project covered an area of approximately 1,200 m², where ECORASTER E50 was installed—a particularly robust, permeable ground grid specifically designed for heavy loads in traffic and access areas. The decision to use gravel was made because the constant heavy traffic—particularly from buses—made it impossible to plant vegetation on the area, and gravel provides a durable, pressure-resistant surface that can withstand daily use, even with frequent maneuvering.
The open, permeable structure of the ECORASTER system facilitates natural water drainage directly into the ground, thereby reducing surface runoff, puddle formation, and associated maintenance work—an advantage over sealed solutions, which must divert rainwater into the sewer system and can lead to higher costs for drainage and maintenance.
This case study demonstrates how ECORASTER E50 can be used as a high-performance, sustainable alternative to conventional sealed road surfaces—offering consistently high load-bearing capacity, reduced maintenance requirements, and consistent performance even with regular use by heavy vehicles.
