Fire access areas for a school in Moscow – Green and stable access roads with ECORASTER

The ECORASTER ground grid system was used to create fire department access routes and maneuvering areas for emergency vehicles on the expansive grounds of a Moscow school. This allowed the school to meet legal requirements for fire department access areas while simultaneously creating a high-quality green space.

Visually appealing yet durable

The paved areas are visually indistinguishable from ordinary green spaces, yet they provide the necessary load-bearing capacity and are ideal for emergency vehicles to drive on. The use of ECORASTER ground grids has created a stable surface that can withstand vehicle traffic.

A key consideration in this project was the ability to incorporate greenery into the space. Thanks to the permeable ground reinforcement system of ECORASTER, this was no problem. The open surface allows grass to grow. The result are visually natural and multifunctional spaces that also serve as fully functional fire access routes.

Numerous benefits for fire department areas

  • High load-bearing capacity: The surface is designed to easily accommodate even heavy emergency vehicles and meets all requirements for fire department access roads.
  • Water permeability: Rainwater and firefighting water are directed directly into the ground, significantly reducing surface runoff.
  • Seamless visual integration: Thanks to the landscaping, the area blends harmoniously into the school’s outdoor surroundings.
  • Dual purpose: The area serves both as a green space for everyday school life and as a reliable infrastructure for emergencies.
  • Durable and low-maintenance: The ECORATER permeable ground reinforcement system allows for long-term use without sealing and requires minimal maintenance and upkeep.

This project in Moscow illustrates how technical and legal requirements for fire access areas can be reconciled with ecological and aesthetic considerations . The result is a  stable, permeable, and vegetable solution that is barely noticeable in everyday use but can be fully utilized as a fire access area and driveway when needed.stabile, wasserdurchlässige und begrünbare Lösung entstanden, die im Alltag kaum auffällt, im Einzelfall jedoch uneingeschränkt als Feuerwehrfläche und -zufahrt genutzt werden kann.
