Project description

Private garden in Erbendorf featuring ECORASTER.

No more puddles

The goal was to transform a slippery clay surface into a sturdy area capable of withstanding the use of a children’s pool, a trampoline, or a garden party. Faced with the prospect of taxes on “sealed surfaces,” the project team opted against complex drainage systems and chose a non-sealed construction method. By choosing ECORASTER Bloxx, a paved surface is created that requires no grouting, lays quickly and securely, and has built-in drainage.

The Work: After removing the top layer, a slight slope “away from the house” was incorporated into the surface. The subbase consists of a geotextile fabric laid directly on the natural soil. Gravel was then spread over it and compacted using a vibrating plate. The base layer was made of 2/5-inch gravel. Despite the slope, this created a level surface that, thanks to its base layer, provides sufficient retention for rainwater.

When combined with the system, the ECORASTER Bloxx forms a sturdy support frame for the concrete blocks, which effectively compensates for minor unevenness and allows for gentle slopes without the pavers becoming tripping hazards. This is particularly noticeable at the transition to the lawn.

Conclusion

The heavy rains of the past few days have left no trace; the surface drained away without any problems. It’s immensely reassuring to know that a children’s pool could burst without flooding the private garden or the house. The homeowners (working as a team of two) completed this project themselves in just two days.
